MANIKGANJ, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 6,862 metric tons of Black grams (Mashkalai dal) are expected to be produced from 5,718 hectares of land in Manikganj during the current season, sources at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said today.

The DAE sources said that a target has been set to cultivate Black grams on 5,718 hectares of land across all seven upazilas of the district.

To boost Black grams cultivation, the government has distributed incentives among 1,000 poor and marginal farmers in the district. The distribution of seeds and fertilizers has already been completed, the sources added.

They said the land of Manikganj, especially the char areas of Daulatpur and Harirampur upazilas, is highly suitable for Black grams cultivation.

Black grams are a popular pulse food among people in the char areas and also serve as good fodder for cattle.

Deputy Director of DAE, Manikganj, Shahjahan Siraj, said that the cultivation of Black grams is gaining popularity day by day due to its increasing demand.
