KHULNA, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS) - Experts at a workshop have stressed the need for long-term resettlement planning, capacity building, and financial empowerment of climate-induced migrants in urban areas.
They made the observations at a validation workshop on the "Climate Change-Induced Migration Strategy Paper" held at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) on Sunday.
Organised by Caritas Bangladesh under its DRR and CCA Project with support from Caritas Germany and BMZ, the event brought together stakeholders from government, NGOs, academia, and climate-affected communities.
Inaugurating the workshop as chief guest, KCC Chief Executive Officer Sharif Asif Rahman said urban infrastructure and services must be inclusive to accommodate the rising number of climate migrants.
Dr Md Ismail Hossain of KUET, in his keynote, said nearly 70 percent of climate migrants relocate to cities in search of security and livelihoods, highlighting the importance of policy frameworks for their integration.
The final draft of the "Migration Strategy Paper" was handed over to KCC at the end of the workshop.
