TANGAIL, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - In a recent drive, the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) fined two food vendors a total of Tk 70,000 for selling unhealthy and unhygienic food to consumers in Kalihati Upazila here.

The drive, led by DNCRP Assistant Director Asaduzzaman Rumel along with members of law enforcement agencies, took place this noon.

Asaduzzaman Rumel said the action was initiated following specific consumer complaints. 

During the operation, Hotel Piyashi, located near the Kalihati Bus Stand, was fined Tk 50,000 for preparing food in unsanitary conditions, selling stale items and providing less quantity than stated. Another vendor, SS Food, was fined Tk 20,000 for using harmful colors and chemicals in their food products, Rumel said.

He emphasized that such drives will continue to protect consumers and ensure food safety in the region.
