One gets life term in oil adulteration case in Jhenaidah

JHENAIDAH, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment in a case filed for mixing of burnt mobil fuel with 10 drums of mustard oil at Satota Oil Mill in Hamdah area of the district town.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1Mahbub Alam delivered the verdict this afternoon in presence of the convict, said bench assistant of the court Md. Shamim Hossain.

The convicted man is Ashraful Islam alias Ashraf Mistiri, a resident of Khandaker Para area of the town.

According to prosecution, on the midnight of December 16, 2010, with the planning and direct support of A. Malek, the owner of Sher-e-Bangla Oil and Rice Mill in Hamdah area and Hafizur Rahman, former chairman of Kalicharanpur Union, convict Ashraf and five others mixed burnt mobil oil with 10 drums of mustard oil of Satota Oil Mills. 

Later, Nowsher Ali, owner of Satota Oil Mill, filed a case with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station.

After the investigation, the investigating officer of the case, Azizur Rahman, filed a charge sheet before the court naming 7 people as accused. 

During the case, Hafiz Chairman, accused in the case, died in 2021. The court also acquitted five others as the charges brought against them were not proven.
