RAJSHAHI, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - Flawless data is a crucial means for pursuing proper development planning to move the country forward successfully while facing all existing challenges, including the global pandemic and natural disasters.
All authorities and others concerned should come forward and work together to collect and furnish authentic statistics and information on all nation-building issues.
Administrative officials and other stakeholders made the observation at a post-rally discussion held at the conference hall of the Divisional Commissioner's office here today.
Rajshahi divisional and district offices of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics jointly hosted the discussion, supported by the divisional and district administrations, in observance of the World Statistics Day and National Statistics Day 2025.
This year's theme is 'Driving change with quality statistics and data for everyone,' underscoring the importance of reliable, high-quality data in decision-making, effective policy development, and sustainable progress.
Divisional Commissioner Khondoker Azim Ahmed addressed the meeting as chief guest, while Divisional Director of Local Government Parvej Raihan and Additional Commissioner Habibur Rahman spoke as special guests.
Prof Ayub Ali from the Department of Statistics at Rajshahi University presented the keynote paper, illustrating the aspects of accurate statistics for the cherished development of the nation.
Joint Director of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) Abdul Halim welcomed the participants.
Commissioner Azim Ahmed said no nation can develop without statistics, as future planning and development depend on it. Accurate statistics form the foundation of an improved life, while inaccurate statistics can cause devastation, he added.
He, however, emphasized that flawless statistics can play a pioneering role in proper planning and that there is no alternative to qualitative statistical information for formulating effective plans.
He expected that the persons engaged in census and other ongoing survey activities will play a responsible role in this regard, adding that acceptance of data and findings largely depends on the competency of statisticians.
Highlighting the importance of statistics, the divisional commissioner said data and findings are the main ingredients of planning, which cannot be fulfilled without accurate statistics.
