Bodies of eight expatriates killed in Oman road accident returned to Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 19, 2025 (BSS) – The bodies of eight expatriates who died in a road accident in Oman have been repatriated to Bangladesh. Seven of them were transported to their respective village homes in Sandwip and Raozan upazilas of Chattogram.

The bodies arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight around 10:30 pm on Saturday. The airport was filled with grief as relatives broke down in tears when the bodies were handed over to their families.

The burials took place in Sandwip and Raozan upazilas this morning.


The deceased have been identified as Amin Majhi from Sarikait Union in Sandwip; Md Arju, Md Rocky, Sahab Uddin, Md Bablu, and Md Jewel from Maitbhanga Union; Md Roni from Rahmatpur; and Alauddin, son of Yusuf, from Chikdair Union in Raozan upazila.

The bodies of the seven deceased were then taken to the Kumira ferry ghat in Sitakunda to cross the sea for their final journey. From there, they were transported to Sandwip early Sunday.

Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mangchingnu Marma said the bodies of the seven deceased were handed over to their families at around 9:30 am on Sunday. The funeral prayers were held at the East Sandwip Multipurpose High School ground near Enamnahar Mar, followed by burial in their respective villages while anther deceased Alauddin was laid to rest in Chikdair village of Raozan upazila.

The tragic accident occurred in the Dukhum Sidda area of Oman around 4 pm on October 8, when a large fish-carrying truck recklessly hit eight individuals, killing seven expatriates from Sandwip on the spot.

The families of the deceased expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh Embassy in Oman, the Ambassador, and the Government of Oman for their assistance in promptly repatriating the bodies.
