KHULNA, Oct 18, 2025 (BSS) A discussion meeting marking the 135th Tirodhan Dibosh (Lalon's Death Anniversary) of the mystic poet Fakir Lalon Shah was held on Friday evening at the Khulna Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
Organized by the Khulna District Administration, Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md. Taufiqur Rahman attended the event as chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner said that Lalon was not only a treasure of Bangladesh but a global spiritual icon whose creations carry universal appeal.
He emphasizes the need for more research on Lalon's philosophy so that people can gain deeper insights from his teachings.
"For the first time, the government is observing Lalon Tirodhan Dibosh as a Category 'Ka' national day," he added.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bitan Kumar Mondal presided over the event. Superintendent of Khulna Police T.M. Mosharraf Hossain and Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Sudarshan Kumar Roy spoke as special guests.
Former Treasurer of Khulna University Professor Mazharul Hannan and former Head of the Bangla Department at Government B.L. College Professor Md. Abdul Mannan, among others, addressed while District Cultural Officer Md. Rafiqul Islam delivered the welcome speech.
The program concluded with a delightful cultural performance presented by artists from the Shilpakala Academy and local Lalon and folk singers of the district.
