SUNAMGANJ, Oct 17, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court operation was conducted on Thursday in Tahirpur upazila of the district, targeting illegal extraction of stone along the Jadukata River.

The operation focused specifically on the ferry terminal area near Laurergarh and Tahirpur aiming to halt the unauthorized removal of natural wealth, said a press release here today.

The operation, which was led by an Executive Magistrate attached to the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, successfully seized 668.47 cubic feet of stone.

This quantity of stone had been extracted illegally from the river and its surrounding banks.

Authorities have confirmed that following the seizure, the process of identifying individuals involved in the illegal mining and taking corresponding legal action against them is currently underway.

Regarding the disposition of the recovered materials, the seized stone is currently held in the custody of a local Union Parishad (UP) member.

Documents related to auction orders and other necessary paperwork have been sent to the Director General (DG) of BMD (Bureau of Mineral Resources Development).
