KISHOREGANJ, Oct 15, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the 2018 killing of a businessman in Tarail upazila of the district.
The court also imposed a fine of Taka 10,000 on convict Islam Uddin Member, 58, son of the late Abul Hasem of Teuria village, , in default to suffer six months more in jail.
Senior District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Nurul Amin Biplob announced the verdict this afternoon in the presence of the convict.
The deceased, Anwar Fakir, son of the late Fazlur Rahman Fakir, was a resident of Uttar Dhala village in Tarail upazila.
According to the prosecution, Islam Uddin had taken Taka 5 lakh in 2018 by promising Anwar Fakir's cousin, Apel Mahmud, a job. When the job was not provided, he returned only part of the money. The murder occurred when Anwar Fakir went to ask for the remaining amount.
On the afternoon of February 15, 2018, Anwar Fakir was stabbed in the chest by Islam Uddin in front of 'Ma Medical Hall' at Teuria Bazar intersection. He was immediately taken to Tarail Upazila Health Complex by locals, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
The next day, Akhlaqul Fakir, the younger brother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Tarail Police Station, naming Islam Uddin as the sole accused.
Police Inspector Abul Kalam Azad submitted the charge sheet to the court on December 5 of the same year.
Advocate Jalal Uddin, Public Prosecutor of Kishoreganj District Judge's Court, said the verdict was delivered today after a prolonged hearing.
