KHULNA, Oct 14, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Firoz Sarkar
on Tuesday emphasized strengthening the Bangladesh Standards and Testing
Institution (BSTI) to ensure product quality and achieve Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs).
He said BSTI monitors product standards, testing and certification, and
enforces regulations through mobile courts.
He made the remarks at a discussion meeting marking World Standards Day, held
at the conference room of the BSTI Khulna Divisional Office as the chief
guest.
This year's theme is "Shared Vision for a Better World --Standards for
Sustainable Development".
"In the past year, BSTI Khulna conducted 83 mobile court drives, imposing
fines totaling around Taka 10.5 lakh. If product standards are maintained
properly, such penalties wouldn't be necessary," he noted.
He called for greater public awareness and collective responsibility to
maintain product quality. "Consumers must verify the quality of goods before
purchasing," he added.
Additional DIG of Khulna Range Police Sheikh Zainuddin and Consumers
Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Khulna General Secretary M. Nazmul Azam David
addressed the meeting as special guests while Professor Dr. Salma Begum of
Khulna University's Environmental Science Discipline presented the keynote
paper.
Md. Lutfor Rahman, deputy director of BSTI Khulna, presided over the meeting.
