KISHOREGANJ, Oct 11, 2025 (BSS) - An 11-year-old girl drowned in a canal at Shaitdhar village under Nikli upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased was identified as Sawda, daughter of Ashab Uddin of the same village.

According to locals, Ashab Uddin went fishing in the haor area with his two daughters, Sawda and Taslima, 7. While returning home, the sisters slipped and fell into a canal near their house.

Ashab Uddin immediately jumped into the water and managed to rescue the younger daughter, Taslima, but failed to save Sawda despite frantic efforts.

Later, locals recovered Sawda's body from the canal.

Nikli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Arif Uddin confirmed the incident.
