SHERPUR, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - Seeds and chemical fertilizers were distributed today among 400 small and marginal farmers of Sadar upazila under the government's agriculture incentive programme for the fiscal year 2025-26.
The distribution function was held at the premises of the Upazila Agriculture Extension Department office at noon.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Abdullah Al Mahmud Bhuiyan attended the event as the chief guest and formally handed over the agricultural incentives to the beneficiaries.
Among others, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Muslima Khanam Nilu, Youth Development Officer Md. Abdul Hannan, Additional Agriculture Officer Nusrat Jahan, and Agriculture Extension Officer Md. Anwar Hossain were present.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Muslima Khanam Nilu said the agriculture rehabilitation and incentive programme, initiated by the District Agriculture Department, aims to boost winter vegetable production both in homesteads and fields across 1 municipality and 14 unions of the upazila.
Under the programme, 300 farmers will receive seeds of brinjal, spinach, red cabbage, beans, gourd, and radish, along with chemical fertilizers for homestead vegetable cultivation.
80 farmers will get gourd seeds along with 10 kg of DAP and 10 kg of MOP fertilizers each for cultivating vegetables on their farmland.
140 farmers will receive 40 grams of hybrid vegetable seeds and chemical fertilizers for cultivation on 20 decimals of land.
140 farmers living in char areas will receive 60 grams of sweet pumpkin seeds, along with 10 kg each of DAP and MOP fertilizers for 20 decimals of land.
Another 140 farmers will get 40 grams of hybrid cucumber seeds, along with 10 kg each of DAP and MOP fertilizers for 20 decimals of land.
She added that a total of 800 marginal farmers will benefit under this programme throughout the Sadar upazila in phases.
The initiative is expected to enhance nutrition, food security, and income among rural farming communities.
