KHULNA, Oct 7, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Md. Firoz Sarkar today underscored the crucial role of community leadership in ensuring a clean, healthy and livable city.

He said that maintaining a hygienic environment remains a major challenge despite regular cleaning initiatives by KCC.

"Community leaders must take the lead in promoting awareness about waste management at the local level," the administrator said while inaugurating a two-day workshop titled "Strengthening Community Engagement for Health and Well-being" at a city hotel.

The event was organized by Khulna City Corporation under the Non-Communicable Disease Control (NCDC) Program of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Under the ongoing Healthy City - Khulna project, the physical activity, dietary habits, and hygiene practices of residents in Wards 6, 18, and 25 have been assessed.

The workshop discussed collective solutions to identified issues.

Participants also decided to clean three ponds in the selected wards and organize a cycle rally to encourage physical exercise.

The opening session was presided over by KCC's Acting Chief Executive Officer Sharif Asif Rahman.

Among others, KUET Professors Dr. Manzur Morshed and Dr. Tushar Kanti Roy, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Mizanur Rahman, and WHO Program Officer Asif Ahmed attended at the event.
