KHULNA, Sept 29, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced 12 individuals to jail in connection with the murder of Gazi Sadiqul Islam, who was fatally attacked in Fultala upazila earlier this month.
The accused had been absconding since the incident took place on September 15.
Court sources said they were intercepted by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) while on their way to surrender at the court. Their vehicle was stopped at the Dakbangla intersection in Khulna city, after which they were handed over to Fultala police and produced before the court.
The court ordered them to jail later in the evening.
The 12 accused are Md Habibur Rahman Gazi, Md Taiyebur Rahman, Md Aslam Biswas, Md Asif Biswas, Md Sajib Biswas, Md Imam-ul Biswas, Rebeka Khatun, Sumaiya Begum, Tabassum Hur, Rowshanara Begum, Md Shahadat Jumaddar, and Md Shah Alam.
According to the case statement, the incident occurred on September 15 at Uttar Dihi village in Fultala upazila. Sadiqul and his brother had reportedly confronted the accused while they were cutting trees on a piece of disputed land. An argument broke out, during which Md Habibur Rahman allegedly struck Sadiqul with a shovel, fracturing his hand. Other attackers reportedly joined in with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Sadiqul was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on September 22. Following his death, his daughter Shamima Sultana filed a murder case with the Fultala police station, naming those involved in the attack.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fultala police station, Zellal Hossain, confirmed that the accused had been in hiding since the attack and were only apprehended on Monday.
