RAJSHAHI, Sept 29, 2025 (BSS) - Integrated efforts of all the government and non-government entities concerned can be the crucial means of protecting food rights in the country’s northwest region.
Drought, underground water crisis, arable land reduction and various other existing problems in the agriculture sector are posing a serious threat to the food security and living and livelihood conditions of the marginalized population.
The views were expressed by government officials, social watchdogs and development activists at a regional conference on food rights at Hotel Warisan in Rajshahi City today.
Paribartan and Food Security Network jointly organized the conference discussing and devising ways and means on how to ensure food rights security.
With district unit president of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Kolpona Roy in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Senior Assistant Commissioner SM Rakibul Hassan, Prof ANK Noman from the Department of Economics at Rajshahi University, Journalist Ahmed Safiuddin, President of District Krishak Dal Safiqul Alam and development activist Everest Hembrom.
Paribartan Director Rashed Ibne Obayed moderated the discussion.
They unequivocally called for ensuring nutritious foods for all to build sound public health to take the nation forward successfully.
At present, the conventional farming system is facing a number of challenges due to various reasons, including the adverse impact of climate change, so time-fitting steps has become crucial to face the challenges.
Referring to their enormous contribution to the country's agricultural development they unanimously said the farmers deserve the rights of getting all requisite privileges. There is no alternative to protecting their interests as a whole.
