CHATTOGRAM, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - All-out preparations, including tight security measures, are afoot in Chattogram for smooth and peaceful celebrations of the four-day Janmashtami festival, the second-largest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, starting on August 16 in the city and elsewhere in the country.
Sources in the district administration and Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) confirmed that comprehensive security measures and other related arrangements, including traffic management, are being put in place centering the upcoming Janmashtami celebrations by the district administration, armed forces, city corporation, and intelligence agencies.
Decisions regarding security and traffic management for the Janmashtami procession were discussed at a coordination meeting held at the CMP headquarters today. CMP DC (Crime and Operations) Md. Raish Uddin confirmed these security arrangements.
Security measures will be in place from Saturday until Tuesday to ensure a safe and colorful celebration of the traditional festival.
The festival will kick off with a grand rally from the city's JM Sen Hall premises at 10 am on August 16 and will conclude at the same venue after parading through important streets.
The Sri Sri Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad Bangladesh, Central Committee, will organise the nationwide celebration of the auspicious birth anniversary of Lord Krishna from August 16 to 19.
The highlight of the festival is the Janmashtami Mahasovhajatra, starting from JM Sen Hall premises in Chattogram city on August 16, followed by cultural programs, conferences, and a procession.
Various events and cultural programs will take place at JM Sen Hall in Chattogram city from August 17 to 19 as part of the Janmashtami festival.
Participants are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, verify the identity of participants in the rally, and conduct the ceremony with respect to the sentiments of other religions. Measures such as avoiding loudspeakers during prayers, preventing misleading propaganda on social media, and ensuring alternative traffic directions during the procession were discussed in the coordination meeting.
CCTV cameras, metal detectors, and a control room for emergency contact have been arranged to enhance security measures during the festival. CMP has installed CCTV cameras at various strategic points to monitor the event and will restrict traffic on certain roads to facilitate the procession.
Plainclothes police, detectives, and RAB personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order during the festival. RAB-7 sources confirmed the deployment of over 200 personnel in the port city and different upazilas of the district to ensure security.
