Mobile court fines two traders, seizes 375 sacks of fertilizer in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court in Dumuria upazila here in the district today fined two traders and seized a large quantity of fertilizer for illegally stockpiling and selling at unfair prices.

The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Aprotima Kumar Chakraborty. 

The first raid was conducted at Jalal Traders, located at the Badamtala intersection on Jatin Kashem Road in the Chuknagar Bazar area. The owner, Jahidul Islam Morol, was fined Tk 10,000 for hoarding fertilizer in violation of the Fertilizer Management Act.

A total of 375 sacks of fertilizer were seized from his shop, including 280 sacks of urea, 46 sacks of TSP, 20 sacks of DAP and 29 sacks of MOP.

In a separate raid, the court fined Sukarna Kumar Ghosh, owner of Sukarna Traders in the Maltilla area, Tk 20,000. He was penalized for not maintaining a stock register and for selling fertilizer at inflated prices, depriving farmers of fair access.

Executive Magistrate Aprotima Kumar Chakraborty said the actions were taken to prevent artificial shortages created through stockpiling and ensure fair distribution of fertilizers among farmers.
The seized fertilizers have been placed in the custody of the Chuknagar Bazar Committee and the local Union Parishad for safekeeping.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Insad Ibne Amin, Atlia Union Parishad Chairman Sheikh Helal Uddin, Chuknagar Bazar Committee President Md. Shahidul Islam, General Secretary Sardar Billal Hossain, and officials from Dumuria Thana Police were present during the raids.
