MANIKGANJ, Aug 5, 2025 (BSS) - July Uprising Day was observed in Manikganj today with due solemnity, paying tribute to the martyrs and expressing solidarity with their families.
The Manikganj District Administration organized various programmes to mark the occasion, beginning with the placing of floral wreaths and offering prayers at the grave of Martyred Rafiqul Islam in Rupsha village under Shibalaya upazila.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manwar Hossein Malla and Superintendent of Police Yasmin Khatun, accompanied by the martyr's father Md. Rahij Uddin, led the wreath-laying ceremony.
Later, government officials, representatives of different organizations, students and people from all walks of life also placed wreaths.
Among them were Manikganj Press Club President Zahangir Alam Biswas, General Secretary Shahanur Islam, Power Grid Executive Engineer Dewan Giash Uddin Mahmud, LGED Executive Engineer Md. Khorshed Alam, Roads and Highways Executive Engineer Shahriar Alam, Shibalaya UNO Md. Zakir Hossain, BNP district leader Satyen Pandit, Shibalaya BNP General Secretary Mizanur Rahman, and Jamaat Shibalaya Upazila Amir Md. Hatem Ali.
Later in the day, gifts provided by the July Martyred Memorial Foundation were distributed among the families of the martyrs and the injured at a function held at the Manikganj District Shilpakala Academy.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Manwar Hossein Malla attended the event as chief guest and handed over the gifts.
Relatives of several martyrs, including Md. Rahij Uddin (father of Martyred Rafiqul Islam), Bahadur Khan (father of Martyred Sad Mahmud Khan), Taslina Khatun (mother of Martyred Mohi Uddin), Shafiqul Islam (brother of Martyred Afiqul Islam), and Nasir Uddin (father of Martyred Shafiq Uddin), addressed the gathering.
They demanded the swift trial of those responsible for the killings and justice for the victims.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Atiqul Mamun, ADC (Revenue) Mohammad Ali, Jamaat Central Committee leader Maulana Delwar Hossain, District Jamaat Amir Hafej Quamrul Islam and July Uprising fighter Hasna Hena, among others, were present at the event.
