'Mother of July' held in Jamalpur honoring uprising heroes

JAMALPUR, Aug 2, 2025 (BSS) - A special gathering titled "Mother of July" was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office this morning to honor the guardians of those involved in the historic July movement.

The event was jointly organized by the District Administration and the Department of Women Affairs, with Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum presiding over the meeting. 

Upazila Women Affairs Officer Kamrunnahar moderated the session.

Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Manjurul Alam, Additional Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Jesmin Jahan, NCP Joint Convener Khalilur Rahman, July movement participants Orthi, Ashfika and Ankhi, along with Nasima Begum, mother of an injured student activist spoke at the gathering.

Speakers emphasized that the July movement was not merely a revolt against authoritarianism, but a united stand against injustice, corruption, misrule and enforced disappearances. 

They noted that citizens from all walks of life joined hands to bring down the oppressive regime, highlighting the people's resilience and yearning for justice.

The meeting concluded with calls to uphold the spirit of the July uprising and to build a just and democratic society that honors the sacrifices made during the movement.
