FARIDPUR, July 31, 2025(BSS) - A court here today sentenced five individuals to death penalty and a 10-year rigorous imprisonment to another for killing an easy bike driver in 2019.
Judge of the Additional District and Sessions Court Md Maksudur Rahman delivered the judgment in the presence of five of the six accused. The court also imposed a fine of Taka 20,000 on each of the five death-row convicts, in default, to suffer another one year of imprisonment.
The death penalty awardees are: Md Mehedi Abu Kawser, 25, Md Jony Mollah, 30, Rasel Sheikh, 25, Rajes Robi Das, 29 and Md Robin Mollah alias Viki, 25. Of them, Rasel Sheikh had been absconding for long time.
Rasel Sheikh, one of the convicts, remains absconding and the court has issued an arrest warrant for him.
Meanwhile, the court sentenced 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to Badsha Sheikh, 31, from Majlishpur area of Rarjbari Sadar for his involvement in the crime. It also fined Taka 10,000 to Badsha Sheikh, in default, to suffer more 10 months of imprisonment.
According to the court sources, police recovered the body of Shawkot Mollah, 20, an easy bike driver from Faridpur sadar, from a paddy field at Goalchamot Molla Bari near Faridpur bypass road on November 15 in 2019.
Shawkot had been reported missing the day before along with his easy bike.
Victim's father Aynal Sheikh filed a murder case with Faridpur Sadar Thana and police later submitted a charge sheet against the convicts.
Advocate Chowdhury Zahid Hassan alias Khokon, Public Prosecutor of the court said that the convicted persons murdered Shawkot Molla for snatching his easy bike and left the body into the paddy field.
The court has expressed its commitment to ensuring justice, with the public prosecutor stating satisfaction with the verdict.
