RAJSHAHI, July 24, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a meeting here today unanimously viewed that integrated efforts by all government and non-government organizations concerned are essential to protect the rights of internal migrants.
The number of internal migrants in both urban and rural areas is increasing due to various reasons, including the adverse impacts of climate change and lack of employment opportunities.
So, there is no alternative to concerted efforts for improving the living conditions and livelihoods of the migrants.
Government officials and development activists made the observation while addressing a project outcome-sharing meeting with stakeholders at Hotel X in the city today.
The Association for Community Development (ACD) organized the meeting as part of its project titled "Fostering Resilience and Community Engagement for Internal Migrant Workers and Families."
The event aimed to discuss and highlight the social security rights of internal migrants, with a focus on the role of government service-providing organizations in protecting those rights.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mirja Imam Uddin, Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development ATM Golam Mahbub, and Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Shobnom Shirin addressed the meeting as guests of honour, while ACD Programme Manager Monirul Islam welcomed the participants.
During his keynote presentation, Project Coordinator Abdul Motin illustrated the achievements of the project, while Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul moderated the session.
The meeting pledged to build resilience among internal migrants and enhance their livelihoods and security.
The project aims to protect around 3,000 households from the adverse impacts of climate change in Rajshahi City Corporation and four upazilas of Rajshahi and Joypurhat districts, and to create a suitable environment for them.
