MAGURA, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - Mourning Day was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country today marking the 'July Martyrs' Day.
A discussion and remembrance meeting was held in the memory of the martyrs of anti-discrimination student movement at the initiative of the Magura Sadar Upazila Administration.
Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hasibul Hasan presided over the meeting held at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium at 11am while Deputy Commissioner Md. Ahidul Islam was present as the chief guest.
The meeting was attended, among others, by members of the families of the martyrs, leaders of the anti-discrimination movement and officers and employees of various government and private departments.
The speakers said that the nation will never forget the sacrifices of those who sacrificed their lives in the anti-discrimination student movement.
The deputy commissioner said that the mass uprising that took place in Magura on July 36 (August 5) resulted in the martyrdom of 10 people in the district, four of whom were residents of Magura Sadar.
The state has already taken a responsible role towards the martyred families.
In the first phase, financial assistance has been provided to the families and savings certificates of Taka 10 lakh have been provided to each family in the second phase.
He also said that the process of providing regular monthly allowances to the injured and martyred family members is under process.
After the discussion, special prayers were held for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs.
