KCC takes month-long programmes in memory of July Uprising martyrs

KHULNA, July 4, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has undertaken a month-long set of elaborate programmes to commemorate the anniversary of the July Uprising.

Following a directive from the Ministry of Local Government, KCC made the decision at a preparatory meeting held yesterday afternoon at the Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of the City Corporation building.

Firoz Sarkar, Administrator of KCC, presided over the meeting.

Paying homage to the martyrs and injured of the July Mass Uprising, the KCC Administrator said the movement has created an opportunity to build a new Bangladesh.

He emphasized that everyone must seize this opportunity to transform Khulna into a prosperous and modern city.

Following discussions, various programmes were taken in alignment with the Local Government Division. 

The programmes include a month-long awareness campaign in the metropolis for dengue prevention, water-logging eradication, and cleanliness drives; organizing rallies and discussions at a convenient time in coordination with national programmes; hosting idea competitions, essay writing, quizzes, regional sports, and art contests related to the July '36 Uprising with participation from youth.

Other programmes include keeping parks open for children free of cost; visiting the grave of Shaheed Md. Sakib Rayhan at Basupara graveyard and renaming the 26 No. Ward Office and Community Center after him; observing Martyrs' Day on July 16 and installing a memorial plaque at Shibbari Square; conducting a week-long service campaign from August 1-7 at Nagar Bhaban, Khalishpur Branch Office, and Zia Hall premises for birth and death registration, trade licenses, and other civic services.

Additionally, banners, festoons, and placards on thematic subjects will be displayed at each ward office; major roads will be decorated with colorful flags and important buildings will be illuminated. A week-long video and photo exhibition on the July Mass Uprising will also be arranged at Shaheed Hadis Park, Shibbari Intersection, and Daulatpur Shaheed Minar premises.

Among others, KCC Secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Waste Management Officer and Executive Magistrate Kohinur Jahan, Budget and Accounts Officer Md. Moniruzzaman, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammuul Islam, and Architect Rezbina Khanam were present at the meeting.
