KHULNA, July 3, 2025 (BSS) – With the theme "Let’s do planned afforestation, build a green Bangladesh," (Parikolpito Bonyaon Kori Sabuz Bangladesh Gori), the Mongla Port Authority (MPA) today began the tree plantation programme -2025.

As part of the initiative, the MPA Chairman Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman inaugurated the tree plantation programme by planting a ‘Krishna Chura’ (Delonix Regia) sapling on the NPA headquarters premises, said Md Makruzzaman, deputy secretary and Public Relations Officer of MPA.

MPA member (Finance) and Director (Administration) also planted a flower sapling each.

The Director (Board), Harbour Master, Chief Finance and Accounts Officer, Chief Engineer (Mechanical and Electrical), Chief Hydrographer, Director (Traffic), Chief Security Officer, Chief Audit Officer, Chief Medical Officer and other officers and other employees of the port were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

The chief guest said, “Due to its location in the coastal area, Mongla port is highly susceptible to natural disasters like cyclones and storm surges, which can cause disruptions to port operations. Trees act as natural defenses for ports, offering protection against adverse weather conditions. By planting around 2000 fruit, forest and medical tree saplings at various points including the headquarters of Mongla Port, Mongla Port will play a leading role in building a green Bangladesh and protecting the natural environment.”

He further said, “It is the responsibility of all of us, the officials and employees, to ensure proper care of the trees that have been planted in the past years and the trees that will be planted now.”

Later, a special prayer was offered, seeking the overall development of the country, nation and port.
