5,550 trees to be planted on 5-km road in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, July 3, 2025 (BSS) - As a part of the government's initiative of 
planting trees, a total of 5,550 trees to be planted on five kilometer (km) 
road in Thakurgaon.

A three-day tree plantation programme titled "Planned Afforestation, Build a 
Green Bangladesh" is currently underway in Thakurgaon which started on July 
2.

A total of 5,550 saplings comprising forest, fruit and medicinal trees will 
be planted along a five-km stretch of road from Akcha Union Parishad in 
Thakurgaon Sadar to Cheradangi Bazar.

The saplings include 4,000 Mahogany trees, 300 Mango trees, 200 Jam trees, 
100 Olive trees, 100 Guava trees, 60 Amlaki (Indian gooseberry) trees, 50 
Lemon trees, 50 Kamranga (star fruit) trees, 50 Amara trees, 50 Chalta trees, 
40 Sonalu trees and 10 Krishnachura (flamboyant) trees.

The campaign, spearheaded by the Local Government Engineering Department 
(LGED), Thakurgaon aims to enhance environmental sustainability in the 
region.

Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana officially inaugurated the inaugural 
ceremony as the chief guest with Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila Executive Officer 
Khairul Islam in the chair.

The campaign highlights a significant step towards promoting biodiversity, 
improving air quality and fostering ecological balance in the district.
