4 confessed their guilt for killing woman in Cumilla 

CUMILLA, July 2, 2025 (BSS) - Four people including a woman today confessed their involvement in a pre-planned killing of the wife of a Saudi expatriate over land dispute at a village under Burichang Upazila here. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Burichang Thana Mohammad Azizul Haque said that they have arrested four people so far for their “involvement” in the killing of Ferdausi Begum, 45, wife of Saudi expatriate Shamsul Haque Alam of Dakkhin Gram village under Rajapur union of the upazila. 

The arrested persons are-Nur Jahan Begum,50, a sister-in-law of the victim, local youths-Anwar Hossain,30, Rubel Ahmed Mintu,31 and Mohammad Mainuddin Jillu,27. 

Police said the arrested people in a pre-planned way strangulated Ferdausi Begum taking her to a nearby place in the morning on June 27 and kept the body into a safety tank with a sack. They killed the woman taking Taka two lakhs from her opponent party following a long land dispute with her neighbor, police added.

Police on July 1 recovered the body from the place of occurrence and sent it to Comilla Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for autopsy. 

Ikramul Hassan, son of the deceased, later filed a murder case with Burichang Thana. Police first arrested Nur Jahan Begum for her suspected involvement and she confessed her direct involvement in the killing and disclosed the name of others. 

Police also recovered a mobile phone used in the killing, two ear rings and a gold chain from the possessions of Nur Jahan Begum. 

Burichang police today produced all the four accused of the killing before the court of judicial magistrate of Cumilla where they made confessional statements before the magistrate under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). 

The court after recording the confessional statements ordered to send them to Cumilla Central Jail.
