DHAKA, Aug 31, 2026 (BSS) - A day-long workshop on "International Trade Financing following LDC Graduation" was held in Chattogram to prepare Bangladesh's banking and business sectors for the challenges likely to emerge after the country's graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category.

International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Bangladesh organised the workshop on Saturday, with Dr Shah Md Ahsan Habib, Professor of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM), conducting the training session, said a press release here today.

Mohammed Amirul Haque, president of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), attended the closing session as the chief guest and distributed certificates among the participants.

Speaking at the session, Amirul Haque said Bangladesh would face significant challenges following its LDC graduation, particularly in the banking and business sectors.

"Bangladesh's LDC graduation will create significant challenges for the banking sector as well as the business community," he said.

He stressed the need for close cooperation between businesses and the government to formulate appropriate strategies to address the emerging challenges following graduation.

He expressed hope that the participants benefited from the workshop and gained a clear understanding of the measures needed to prepare themselves for the post-graduation environment.

ICC Bangladesh Secretary General Ataur Rahman thanked the participating banks for nominating their officials for the workshop. He also thanked Eastern Bank and Prime Bank for nominating some of their clients to participate.

A total of 63 participants from 19 banks, including 12 clients of Eastern Bank and Prime Bank, took part in the workshop. I can also make this more newsy and punchy for the BSS wire, with a stronger headline and lead focusing specifically on post-LDC trade-financing challenges.
