FBCCI for strengthening institutional cooperation between Bangladesh, China

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) today stressed strengthening institutional cooperation between Bangladesh and China to enhance bilateral trade and expand investment.

FBCCI Administrator Md Fazlul Hoque made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen in the city, said a press release.

During the meeting, Hoque highlighted Bangladesh's investment potential and urged Chinese entrepreneurs to establish industries in the country's special economic zones, particularly in Chattogram and Khulna.

He assured the Chinese business community of FBCCI's full cooperation in conducting business in Bangladesh.

The FBCCI administrator said stronger institutional ties and coordinated initiatives among the FBCCI, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB) are essential to expand trade and investment between the two countries.

He also called for simplifying China's visa procedures for Bangladeshi businesspeople to facilitate greater commercial engagement between the two countries.

Ambassador Yao Wen said the Chinese Embassy is ready to work sincerely to take China-Bangladesh bilateral trade relations to a new height.

He highlighted potential areas for trade and investment in Bangladesh, including electric vehicles (EVs), fruits and processed agricultural products, renewable energy and tourism.

FBCCI Secretary General Md Alomgir and senior officials of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka were also present at the meeting.

Despite significant growth in bilateral trade over the past decade, Bangladesh's exports to China remain comparatively low.

In the 2024-25 fiscal year, Bangladesh exported goods worth around $694 million to China, while its imports from China stood at approximately $18.19 billion-nearly 26 times higher than its exports.

Against this backdrop, the FBCCI administrator called on Chinese investors to invest in Bangladesh as part of efforts to reduce the bilateral trade gap.
