Abdur Rahman Khan appointed as alternate executive director to WB

DHAKA, August 23, 2026 (BSS) — The government has appointed former chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Md Abdur Rahman Khan as the Alternate Executive Director at the World Bank’s Washington-based headquarters representing Bangladesh.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification in this regard on Saturday. 

According to the notification, Abdur Rahman Khan has been appointed on a contractual basis by suspending his post-retirement leave and related benefits.

He will serve as Alternate Executive Director for three years from the date of his joining, subject to the condition that he severs all employment or professional relations with any other profession, business, government or semi-government office, private institution or organisation.

Other terms and conditions of his appointment will be determined through the relevant contract, the notification said. The order was issued in the public interest.

Executive Directors at the World Bank represent constituencies formed by groups of member countries. They play an important role in placing the respective countries’ policy priorities, economic interests and development concerns before the World Bank’s policy-making bodies.

The notification further stated that during his tenure, Abdur Rahman Khan will not be allowed to maintain any employment or professional relationship with any other profession, business or government or private organisation, in accordance with the stipulated conditions.

His tenure will be three years from the date of joining.
