DHAKA, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - The first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Md Khaled Hossain Mahbub in the chair.
Committee members, including Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Md Barkat Ullah Bulu, Abul Hossain Khan, Md Abul Kalam, Helen Jerin Khan, Syed Zainul Abedin, Gazi Enamul Haque and Abdul Muntakim, attended the meeting.
The meeting held an introductory session and exchanged views with the officials heading the Ministry of Commerce and its subordinate agencies. The committee was briefed on the activities of the ministry and its affiliated organizations, said a press release of parliament secretariat.
The meeting discussed in detail the activities of the Bangladesh Competition Commission. It recommended that detailed information on the commission’s institutional expenditure over the past 10 years since its establishment, the amount of fines collected through the commission and cases pending disposal be presented at the next meeting.
The meeting also discussed measures to reduce the amount of government subsidy for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), as well as the process of appointing dealers and relevant policies.
The Commerce Ministry secretary, chairman of the Bangladesh Competition Commission, additional secretaries of the ministry, and relevant officials and employees of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat were present at the meeting.
