DHAKA, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS) — The government has formed a 27-member National Steering Committee on Creative Economy to formulate and implement sector-specific roadmaps and coordinate activities aimed at developing the country’s creative economy.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard yesterday.

The Minister for Finance and Planning will serve as chairman of the committee, while the Minister for Cultural Affairs, Minister for Industries, Minister for Commerce and Minister for Housing and Public Works will act as members.

The committee also includes the State Minister for Planning; advisers to the Ministries of Finance and Planning, and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology; the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant for Health Affairs; and the Adviser for Policy and Strategy at the Ministries of Information and Broadcasting and Cultural Affairs.

Secretaries of the Finance Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Industries, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, ICT Division, and Ministry of Housing and Public Works have also been included as members.

The chairman of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) is also a member.

Representatives from BRAC, HSBC Bangladesh, Bengal Foundation and Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology are members of the committee.

Fashion designer and entrepreneur Bibi Russell has been appointed as a sector specialist member, along with another sector specialist.

Additional Secretary (Macroeconomics and TDM) of the Finance Division will serve as member-secretary.

The gazette clarified that the term “Secretary” in the committee will also include Senior Secretary.

According to the terms of reference, the committee will approve sector-specific roadmaps concerning the creative economy and review progress in their implementation.

It will also coordinate and provide guidance on inter-ministerial and inter-agency activities related to the creative economy.

The committee will review the activities of various sector-specific committees and assess implementation progress on a quarterly basis.

The committee may co-opt members if necessary, while its meetings will be held as required.

The Finance Division will provide secretarial support to the committee.

The government order came into effect immediately.
