National taskforce formed to facilitate business, deregulation

DHAKA, Aug 10, 2026 (BSS) — The government has formed a National Taskforce on Deregulation and Business Facilitation to streamline business-related services, remove unnecessary regulatory hurdles and accelerate investment.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard yesterday.

The taskforce will be headed by the Minister for the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Planning.

The Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change; Minister for Industries and Commerce; Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; Adviser to the Ministries of Finance and Planning; Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology will serve as members.

The Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Investment and Capital Market Affairs, Cabinet Secretary, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Secretary of the Finance Division, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), and Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) are also members of the taskforce.

The Registrar of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC), presidents of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) will also serve as members.

Additional Secretary (Macroeconomics and TDM) of the Finance Division will act as member-secretary.

According to the gazette, the taskforce will approve sector-specific reform roadmaps on deregulation and business facilitation and review their implementation progress.

It will provide directions for simplifying unnecessary procedures relating to licences, approvals, clearances, taxes, customs, banking, capital markets, construction, environment and local services.

The taskforce will also provide policy guidance for implementing Single Window, Service Level Agreement (SLA), deemed or automatic approval, and online tracking systems.

It will work to resolve inter-ministerial and inter-agency complexities quickly and identify the need for amendments to laws, rules, policies, circulars and administrative orders.
The taskforce will also monitor complaints, irregularities and delays of investors and service recipients through a dedicated website and grievance redress mechanism of Invest Bangladesh Authority and place relevant issues before the taskforce when necessary.

It will review progress on a quarterly basis.

The taskforce may co-opt members if necessary and will hold meetings as required. The Finance Division will provide secretarial support to the taskforce.

The government said the decision will take effect immediately.
