DHAKA, Aug 7, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman today joined the Bangla QR promotion campaign in Chattogram as part of his two-day official visit aimed at promoting digital payments and discussing the central bank's policy support initiatives.
During the August 7-8 visit, the governor is scheduled to attend a series of official meetings with officials of the Bangladesh Bank Chattogram Office and hold discussions on policy support measures undertaken by the central bank, said a press release here.
On the first day of the visit, he visited the city's renowned Gani Bakery, where he purchased its famous Bela Biscuits and made the payment through the Bangla QR digital payment platform.
Expressing satisfaction that a traditional and well-known business like Gani Bakery has adopted Bangla QR, the governor said Bangladesh Bank is working relentlessly to build a safe, simple, low-cost and inclusive cashless payment ecosystem across the country.
"The adoption of Bangla QR by a heritage business like Gani Bakery reflects the growing acceptance of digital payments and the confidence of people in the country's digital financial services," he said.
He said wider use of digital payments in business would enhance transparency, reduce transaction costs and expand financial inclusion.
The governor also called upon businesses across the country to adopt Bangla QR and actively participate in building a cashless Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Bank, Bangla QR is rapidly expanding nationwide as an interoperable, secure and convenient digital payment platform.
The central bank expects the governor's visit and participation in the campaign in Chattogram to encourage both businesses and consumers to use digital payment services more widely.
