Swiss Re profits jump as hurricane peak looms

ZURICH, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - The reinsurance giant Swiss Re said Thursday that its profits jumped in the first half of the year, beating expectations, while adding that it would "remain vigilant" as hurricane season nears its peak.

The Swiss group, which provides insurance to insurance firms, registered $2.8 billion in net profit in the January-June period, it said in a statement.

The figure was a nine percent jump on the same period last year.

"Strong earnings delivery in the first half of the year puts us well on track towards our 2026 financial targets, while we remain vigilant as we approach the peak of the hurricane season," said Chief Executive Officer Andreas Berger.
