DINAJPUR, August 3, 2026 (BSS) – Imports of green chillies from India through Dinajpur's Hili Land Port resumed today after a gap of more than eight months, raising hopes of easing the prices in the domestic market.

“Three Indian trucks carrying green chillies entered Bangladesh through the port at around 4:30 pm,” said Hili Land Port Importers and Exporters Association President Md Sakhawat Hossain Shilpi.

The impact of the imports was immediately reflected in the local wholesale market, where the price of green chillies dropped from Taka 280 per kilogram in the morning to Taka 250 per kg in the afternoon.

Local traders expressed hope that prices would decline further over the next few days if imports continue in line with domestic demand.

Following the approval of fresh Import Permits (IPs), 69 importers have been authorised to import around 29,710 tonnes of green chillies from India, the port sources said.

"Imported green chillies are being cleared on a priority basis as the commodity is highly perishable," Public Relations Officer of Panama Hili Port M. Sohrab Hossain Pratap told BSS.
