DHAKA, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh's merchandise exports made a strong start to the 2026-27 fiscal year, registering a 12.49 percent month-on-month increase in July as the country's readymade garment (RMG) sector posted a robust recovery.
According to the latest export data, merchandise exports reached US$4.73 billion in July 2026, up from US$4.20 billion in June 2026.
The country's export-oriented RMG sector, which accounts for the lion's share of overseas earnings, recorded a significant monthly rebound.
RMG exports stood at US$3.89 billion in July, registering a 14.73 percent increase from US$3.39 billion in June.
The United States remained Bangladesh's largest export destination during the month, with shipments totaling US$918.74 million, representing a 0.25 percent increase over July 2025.
Germany ranked as the second-largest export market with exports worth US$495.30 million, followed by the United Kingdom, where exports reached US$478.42 million.
Among the major export destinations, India and Saudi Arabia recorded the highest growth rates, with exports rising 15.30 percent and 10.64 percent, respectively.
The strong month-on-month recovery in exports, particularly in the RMG sector, has raised optimism among policymakers and exporters about achieving the export targets set for the current fiscal year.
Industry insiders expect Bangladesh to benefit from upcoming autumn and year-end festive season orders, while exporters are also expanding into non-traditional markets and introducing new product lines to sustain export growth in the months ahead.
