DHAKA, July 30, 2026 (BSS) – BRAC Bank has launched Bangla QR at BRAC University as part of Bangladesh Bank's drive to promote a cashless economy, enabling seamless digital payments across the university's Merul Badda campus.

The service was inaugurated today by Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman, as the chief guest at a ceremony held on the university campus, said a press release.

With the introduction of Bangla QR, students, faculty members and visitors will be able to make a wide range of cashless payments, including tuition and academic fees, cafeteria bills, retail shop purchases and other daily expenses, using Bangla QR and other digital banking channels.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor also participated in an interactive session with students, where he responded to questions on Bangla QR, digital payments and Bangladesh Bank's initiatives to build a cashless economy.

Among others present at the event were BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar, Bangladesh Bank Payment Systems Department-1 Director A.N.M. Moinul Kabir, Payment Systems Department-2 Director Md. Sharafat Ullah Khan, BRAC Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, along with faculty members and students.

 Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Arshad Mahmood Chowdhury, Treasurer Ariful Islam and BRAC Business School Dean Professor Mohammad Mujibul Haque also attended the programme.

Bangla QR is the country's interoperable QR-based payment platform, allowing customers of any bank or mobile financial service (MFS) provider to make instant payments by scanning a single QR code, regardless of their financial institution.

BRAC Bank Managing Director and CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said the initiative demonstrates how technology can make everyday financial transactions easier, faster and more secure.

 He said the bank is proud to be partner with BRAC University in establishing the country's first cashless campus and remained committed to supporting Bangladesh Bank's vision of a "Cashless Bangladesh" through innovative and inclusive digital payment services.

BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar described Bangla QR as a significant step towards building an inclusive society and economy.

 However, he stressed that wider internet connectivity and greater access to smart devices would be essential to ensure the success of such digital initiatives.

The programme was organised with the support of students of the university's Finance and Accounting Club.
