DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has achieved the highest revenue collection in the country's history during the first 11 months of current fiscal year (FY) 2025-26, collecting Tk 360,642 crore up to May 2026.
According to an NBR press release issued today, the revenue collection during the July-May period surpassed all previous records and was Tk 32,856.22 crore higher than the Tk 327,785.78 crore collected during the corresponding period of FY 2024-25.
The growth rate in revenue collection during the first 11 months of FY2025-26 stood at 10.02 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.
The revised revenue collection target for FY2025-26 has been set at Tk 503,000 crore. Against this target, the NBR collected Tk 360,642 crore up to May. For the first 11 months of the fiscal year, the revenue target was Tk 442,084 crore, meaning collections fell short by Tk 81,442 crore, achieving 81.58 percent of the target.
During the period, customs revenue grew by 7.08 percent, value-added tax (VAT) revenue by 10.05 percent, and income tax revenue by 12.54 percent.
The NBR said revenue collection reached Tk 389,953 crore as of June 20, 2026, after collecting Tk 29,311 crore during the first 20 days of June. This amount has already exceeded the total collection of Tk 370,843.03 crore recorded in the entire FY2024-25.
The revenue authority expressed optimism that an additional Tk 25,000 crore could be collected during the remaining 10 days of June, enabling total revenue collection to reach a historic Tk 415,000 crore by the end of the current fiscal year.
If achieved, the figure would still remain Tk 88,000 crore below the annual target, but would exceed the previous fiscal year's collection by Tk 43,157 crore, the release said.
To accelerate revenue mobilisation, the NBR has formed three separate task forces comprising field-level officials from the income tax, VAT and customs wings.
The task forces have undertaken a range of measures, including expediting cases pending before appellate authorities, tribunals, the High Court and the Supreme Court, as well as promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to boost tax recovery.
The NBR also highlighted ongoing efforts to detect tax evasion and recover lost revenue, expedite the disposal of automatically selected audit cases, strengthen monitoring of tax and VAT deducted at source, enhance post-clearance audits and risk management activities at customs houses, and conduct coordinated income tax and VAT audits of high-risk taxpayers.
The revenue authority said these initiatives have injected greater momentum into its overall operations and reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts to mobilise the resources required for the country's development.
