Humayun urges entrepreneurs to register in e-database

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2022 (BSS) - Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today urged the small and medium entrepreneurs to register in electronic database to get services easily.

"We have to work relentlessly for the final graduation from LDCs by 2026, to achieve SDGs by 2030 and to build a developed Bangladesh by 2041. As per the SME policy, all information will have to be store. I believe that the joint efforts of SME Foundation and Aspire to Innovate (A2I) to create SME database will be fruitful," he said.

The minister said this while inaugurating the pilot programme of SME e-database in four upazilas at a function in the city, said a press release.

State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak attended the function as the special guest with Chairperson of the SME Foundation Dr Masudur Rahman in the chair.

At present, Humayun said, around 99 percent of the industry and business, including cottages, in Bangladesh are covered by MSME sector.

"This sector controls 70 percent of the country's economic activities. The SME sector accounts for 80 to 85 percent of the total industrial employment. The SME sector supplies 30 to 35 per cent of the total domestic industrial demand," he added.

Therefore, he opined that SME e-database activities are a very timely initiative.

"If the information of all SME entrepreneurs of the country is available on one platform, it will be easier for the government to determine the policy for the development of this sector. Such programmes will play an important role in the development of the MSME sector," he added.
