AmCham announces new executive committee for 2026-2028

DHAKA, June 14, 2026 (BSS) - The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh 
(AmCham) today announced its newly-elected Executive Committee for the 2026-
2028 term at a ceremony held at the Grand Ballroom of Sheraton Dhaka, Banani 
marking a renewed commitment to strengthening US-Bangladesh business 
relations.

Under the new leadership, Syed Mohammad Kamal, vice-president of Mastercard 
Bangladesh, has been elected President while Ala Uddin Ahmad, chief executive 
officer (CEO) of MetLife Bangladesh, assumes the role of Vice-President. 

Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud, managing director (MD) of Philip Morris International 
Bangladesh, has been elected Treasurer.

The newly-formed Executive Committee includes Al-Mamun M. Rashel, MD of NATco 
Bangladesh Ltd.; Habib Bhuiyan, country manager of Excelerate Energy 
Bangladesh; Sazzad Hossain, general manager of Avery Dennison Bangladesh and 
Sri Lanka; and Ataur Rahim Chowdhury, CEO and Co-founder of ShopUp 
Bangladesh.

The leadership team brings extensive experience across financial services, 
energy, logistics, manufacturing, and digital commerce. 

In their collective pledge, the committee committed to advancing trade and 
investment, deepening US-Bangladesh economic ties, expanding membership 
engagement, strengthening policy advocacy and positioning Bangladesh as a 
preferred investment destination.

Outgoing President Syed Ershad Ahmed highlighted the institutional progress 
achieved during his tenure, while the newly-elected leadership expressed 
appreciation for his contributions along with other outgoing committee 
members.

The event was attended by senior government officials, representatives of the 
US Embassy and other diplomatic missions, chamber leaders, corporate 
executives, policy experts, and development partners.

Brent T. Christensen, ambassador of the United States to Bangladesh, conveyed 
his confidence in the new leadership and reaffirmed continued support for 
strengthening bilateral economic cooperation. 

The ceremony concluded with a cultural performance featuring American and 
Bangladeshi music, symbolizing longstanding friendship and people-to-people 
ties between the two countries.
