Janata Bank PLC to distribute Tk 600-cr agricultural loans: MD

RANGPUR, June 14, 2026 (BSS) – Managing Director (MD) of Janata Bank PLC Md Mazibur Rahman has said that the bank will distribute Taka 600 crore agricultural loans in the upcoming 2026-2027 FY to further strengthen the agriculture-based economy.

“Out of this, the bank has plans to provide the largest amount of agricultural loans to the farmers of Rangpur division compared to other regions of the country to further boost agricultural production,” he said.
 
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the Janata Bank PLC’s Rangpur Divisional Branch Managers' Conference held at BRAC Learning Center in Rangpur city on Sunday.

Deputy Managing Director of the Bank Kazi Abdur Rahman, General Manager Shafayat Hossain and senior officials and branch managers of the bank from all over Rangpur division were present at the time.

The Managing Director said that more digital technology will be added to banking activities of Janata Bank PLC to make it easier for farmers to get loans across the country.

“An initiative has been taken to provide loans to farmers on easy terms to further strengthen the agriculture-based economy. At the same time, loan distribution activities for new entrepreneurs will also be expanded,” he said. 

Emphasis is being placed on digitalization to make banking services more modern and accessible. 

He said that defaulted loans are a big challenge in the country's banking sector and economy. 
 
The present government and Bangladesh Bank have taken various steps to recover money from big defaulters including Beximco Group, S Alam Group and Anon Tex Group. 
 
Besides, initiatives have been taken to auction collateral against loans, initiate legal proceedings and bring back money laundered abroad. 

In this regard, he said that agreements have already been signed with 11 international law firms to identify and recover money laundered abroad. 

“In the meantime, it has also been possible to identify information about the assets of two organizations abroad,” he said.
