DHAKA, June 11, 2026 (BSS) - The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) today welcomed several reform-oriented and sustainability-focused measures proposed in the national budget for fiscal year 2026-27, describing them as positive steps towards fostering a greener and more efficient economy.
Speaking at a post-budget reaction briefing in the capital, CPD Executive Director Dr Fahmida Khatun said the budget contains a number of encouraging initiatives, including duty exemptions on solar panels and incentives for electric vehicles, which could support Bangladesh's transition to environmentally sustainable growth.
She also appreciated the government's emphasis on structural reforms, noting that the first budget of the current administration presents an important opportunity to undertake long-awaited institutional changes.
Among the reforms highlighted by the CPD was the proposal to separate tax policy functions from tax administration under the National Board of Revenue (NBR), a move the think tank believes could strengthen fiscal governance and improve revenue management.
Dr Fahmida further noted that allocations for the health and education sectors have increased marginally as a share of GDP.
She stressed, however, that improving the quality and efficiency of public spending would be essential to ensure the desired outcomes from these investments.
The CPD also underscored the importance of effective implementation of the proposed measures, saying that sustained political commitment and administrative capacity would be key to translating policy intentions into tangible results.
The think tank acknowledged the budget's focus on structural transformation, green growth and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening the country's long-term economic foundations.
