ECB raises benchmark rate to 2.25% as Iran war inflation bites

FRANKFURT, Germany, June 11, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - The European Central Bank on Thursday raised its key interest rate to 2.25 percent to tackle a jump in inflation fuelled by the Middle East war energy shock.

The central bank for the 21 countries that use the euro raised the deposit rate by 0.25 percentage points, in its first increase since September 2023.
