Nagad disburses Tk 2,400cr govt allowances in May

DHAKA, June 10, 2026 (BSS)- The government has disbursed around Taka 2,400 crore of different social safety net programmes through Nagad among 1.59 crore beneficiaries in May.

The amount was disbursed for social safety net programme of Prime Minister's Education Assistance, Family Card and other government initiatives, a press release today said.

The release said highest number of beneficiaries received the government assistance under fourth installment of the Social Safety Net (SSN) programme in May. Under the programme, more than Taka 1,500 crore was distributed among 78.51 lakh beneficiaries.

Nagad, one of the country’s Mobile Financial Service (MFS) operated under the Bangladesh Post Office and regulated by Bangladesh Bank, also disbursed more than Taka 579 crore among nearly 69 lakh students under the Primary Education Stipend Program (PESP).

Under the Mother and Child Benefit Programme the government distributed nearly Taka 97.5 crore among around 12 lakh beneficiaries through Nagad.

Besides, funds under the Primary Education Stipend Program (PESP), the EGPP Plus/BCRSR projects of the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), and the Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust (PMEAT) were also distributed through Nagad.

Under the initiatives, government assistance of more than Taka 13 crore were distributed to 20,000 beneficiaries.

The release said Nagad recorded the highest number of beneficiaries and the largest volume of government allowance disbursements under social safety net programmes during the first quarter of this year.

From January to March, more than 1.31 crore beneficiaries received nearly Taka 2,900 crore from government as allowances through their Nagad accounts. The amount was Taka 300 crore higher than the amount of the corresponding period of the previous year.

Commenting on the disbursements, Nagad Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Samsul Islam said, Nagad has consistently served as a reliable platform for disbursing government allowances, stipends, and financial assistance under various welfare programmes.

He said Nagad was grateful that a large number of beneficiaries continued to choose the platform as their preferred channel. Technology-driven services fo Nagad, accessibility and extensive digital financial network enabled government funds to reach beneficiaries quickly and securely, he said.
