DHAKA, June 3, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and 
Exporters Association (BGMEA) has extended heartfelt congratulations to 
Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st 
session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), describing the 
achievement as a landmark recognition of Bangladesh's diplomatic strength and 
global standing.

In a press release issued here today, the body of the country's apparel 
sector said Dr. Khalilur Rahman's election has elevated Bangladesh's image in 
the international arena and reflected the country's diplomatic foresight and 
strong position on the global stage.

BGMEA expressed confidence that the foreign minister's extensive diplomatic 
experience, multilateral expertise and visionary leadership would contribute 
significantly to global peace, sustainable development and efforts to address 
climate change challenges, said a press release.

The organisation also said it believes Dr. Khalilur Rahman would effectively 
utilise the prestigious position to advance Bangladesh's national and 
strategic economic priorities at the global level, including maintaining 
trade facilities during the country's transition from Least Developed Country 
(LDC) status, reforming the international financial system, securing climate 
financing and facilitating the recovery of laundered assets.

The trade body, representing the country's garment industry, wished Dr. 
Khalilur Rahman every success during his tenure as President of the 81st 
session of the UN General Assembly.
