SATKHIRA, June 1, 2026 (BSS) - Import-export activities at Bhomra Land Port in Satkhira resumed this morning after a seven-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
According to port authorities and stakeholders, all import-export operations between Bangladesh and India had remained suspended from May 25 to May 31 following a joint decision by organisations associated with the port.
However, passenger movement through the immigration checkpoint continued uninterrupted during the holiday period.
Abu Musa, general secretary of the Bhomra Land Port C&F Association, said the decision to suspend trade activities was taken unanimously after consultations among all organisations linked to the port, including the C&F Agents Association, and discussions with India's Ghojadanga C&F Agents Cargo Welfare Association.
He said commercial trade activities between the two neighbouring countries resumed this morning, restoring business operations and activity at the port.
Tufan Mandal, officer-in-charge of Bhomra Land Port Immigration, said that while import-export operations remained closed throughout the holiday period, passport-holding passengers continued to cross the border as usual.
Bhomra Land Port Authority Deputy Director Mamun Kabir Tarafdar said the reopening of import-export operations is expected to help clear pending consignments and boost trade flow through one of the country's important land ports.
