Stocks extend rally for 3rd straight session on bargain hunting

DHAKA, May 21, 2026 (BSS) – Stocks extended its recovery streak for the third consecutive session today, supported by continued bargain hunting in major stocks amid attractive valuations.

The broad index, DSEX, of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) advanced by 41.7 points to close at 5,264 points, up from 5,222 points in the previous trading session.

Market analysts said investors remained active from the opening bell, building on the previous session’s late buying momentum, which helped most listed securities close higher.

Turnover at the premier bourse also increased by 3.1 percent to Taka 8.7 billion, compared to Taka 8.4 billion in the previous session.

Sector-wise, Engineering stocks dominated the turnover chart with 16.7 percent of the total transactions, followed by Pharmaceuticals at 16.1 percent and General Insurance at 10.8 percent.

All major sectors posted positive returns during the session. The Travel sector gained the highest 3.1 percent, followed by Life Insurance with 1.5 percent and Cement with 1.3 percent.

Out of the 397 issues traded on the DSE, 233 advanced, 90 declined and 73 remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) rose by 34.2 points, while the All Share Price Index (CASPI) gained 21.3 points.
