DHAKA, May 17, 2026 (BSS) - Sonali Bank has partnered with Axentec to provide secure technological support for the government’s “Farmer Card” initiative. The collaboration ensures reliable connectivity through Axentec’s infrastructure.
The pilot programme was inaugurated in Tangail, where operations have already begun, according to a press release issued today.
Farmers can now access various financial services through point-of-sale (POS) machines. The use of dual SIM technology in these devices ensures uninterrupted network coverage in rural and semi-urban areas.
In the first phase, around 22,000 farmers across 11 agricultural blocks in 11 upazilas of 10 districts are being brought under the programme. The government plans to expand the programme nationwide in phases.
A subsidiary of Robi Axiata PLC, Axentec is supporting Sonali Bank in implementing part of the service through its secure connectivity solution. The system has been deployed using the “Robi Secure Connect” service, ensuring encrypted, reliable and high-capacity communication across the network, which is essential for secure transactions and efficient service delivery.
Commenting on the initiative, Axentec Managing Director and CEO Md Adil Hossain Nobel said, “Through this programme, we are helping deliver secure digital services at the grassroots level, which will benefit farmers. It will also play a significant role in strengthening Bangladesh’s rural economy.”
