DHAKA, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS) - The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has
introduced an automated system to credit income tax paid at the import stage
directly to taxpayers' e-returns, aiming to ease return filing and eliminate
long-standing hassles faced by importers.
The system has been launched following the successful integration of the
ASYCUDA World platform with the NBR's e-Return system, according to an NBR
press release issued today.
Under the new arrangement, importing taxpayers will automatically receive
bill-of-entry-wise information on advance income tax paid during the relevant
income year while entering business income details in their e-returns. The
import-stage income tax will be adjusted against the total payable tax,
enabling automatic calculation of the net payable amount.
The initiative is expected to significantly facilitate e-return filing for
importing businesspersons and ensure accurate and timely tax credit.
Since the formal inauguration of online e-return filing for the tax year
2025-26 on August 4, 2025, by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, more than
4.6 million taxpayers have registered on the e-return system, while nearly
3.3 million have already submitted their returns.
The NBR noted that many taxpayers, even those not mandated to file e-returns
online, are voluntarily using the system. Expatriate Bangladeshi taxpayers
have also been brought under the e-return facility this year, with nearly
4,000 expatriates already submitting their tax returns online for the current
tax year.
The revenue board said no documents or papers are required to be uploaded for
online return submission. It reiterated that its efforts would continue to
enable individual taxpayers to pay income tax and submit returns easily from
home.
The NBR also urged all individual taxpayers to submit their income tax
returns online through the e-return system by January 31, 2026.
