DHAKA, Oct 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) held a crucial meeting today, focusing on collaborative strategies to strengthen the
nation's capital market and encourage more garment companies to seek public listing.
A five-member DSE delegation, led by Chairman Mominul Islam, met with BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan at his office in the city.
The meeting included DSE Directors Major General Mohammad Kamruzzaman (Retd.), Richard D Rozario, and Minhaj Mannan Emon, along with Chief Operating Officer and Acting Managing Director Mohammad Asadur Rahman.
BGMEA was represented by Senior Vice President Enamul Hoque Khan and Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, among other senior officials from both organizations.
Mominul Islam emphasized that the garment industry functions as the main driving force of Bangladesh's economy, making significant contributions to foreign exchange earnings, employment generation, and the development of supporting industries.
He noted that the country's financial sector is also substantially reliant on garment manufacturing.
"Currently, 58 institutions in the garment and textiles sector are listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange," he added.
The DSE chairman stated that the DSE is working to strengthen corporate governance and management structure.
The DSE board and management are focused on simplifying the listing process and transforming the DSE from a controlling institution into a customer-centric service provider, he added.
He requested BGMEA's assistance, advice, and cooperation, acknowledging that the DSE has not yet reached its desired destination.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan highlighted that the apparel industry's business is primarily relationship- and marketing-based with buyers.
BGMEA's support to its members includes identifying good buyers and business partners, he added.
He stated their core policy is to encourage companies that manage the vertical or complete process to become publicly listed.
